Custom fronts — the unit builder

The library has eleven ready presets. When what you want is not among them — two drawers over a door, a glass door beside an open shelf, a false front under the sink — you build it yourself.

Which click

1. Library drawer (left of the editor) → “Build a custom unit…” under the list.
2. In the Build unit dialog: base or wall, a name, and a width in millimetres. Height and depth come from the project’s standard settings and are shown there.
3. The “Front — top to bottom” section: each row is one strip, and you give it three things —
   • kind: door, drawer, glass door, sliding door, open, false front, appliance panel
   • cells: how many fronts the row is split into (two drawers, three doors…)
   • height: a number in millimetres, or empty. Empty means “whatever is left”; with several empty rows the remaining space is shared between them.
4. “+ row” adds a row; the ✕ on a row removes it.
5. On the front grid (the preview in the middle) each cell can be touched on its own: clicking a cell changes its kind, and the small buttons beside it split the cell or merge it with its neighbour. A row does not have to be all one kind.
6. The preview is live and draws exactly what will be built. Under it are the row and cell counts.
7. “Add to the base run” (or wall run) puts the unit into the open wall.

What comes out of it

A custom front is not just a picture — it reaches the cut list the same moment:

• Every cell becomes a front panel at its own exact size, with the front gap from the catalogue.
• A drawer brings its runners and box; a sliding door takes no hinge, runs on its track, and overlaps where the doors pass each other.
• A glass door is not cut from a board at all: four mitred lengths of aluminium around the door (billed by the metre) and a pane that reaches under the frame (by the square metre). They appear in the cost, not in the board cut list.
• A false front has a face and nothing behind it; open has no face at all.
• An appliance panel is the place for a built-in dishwasher or fridge: a face, hinged, no carcass.

If the fixed row heights add up to more than the unit itself, the preview says so right there — before you add it, not after the boards are cut.

Notes

• A custom width can also be given to a ready preset, in the library drawer itself (“Custom width”); empty means that unit’s own default.
• A unit you build behaves like any other: it opens in 3D (Doors open), appears in the printed sheets and the cut list, and its width can be changed again later.
• “Fill this wall…” is a different thing: it lays out the wall automatically from the presets. For something the list does not have, start from the builder.
